SEALAB III is newly tooled to faithfully replicate the original 1970 model.   This is a complex model, with a detailed interior, and features a partial clear hull to reveal the inside.  There are four diver figures to display with your model on the textured seabed base.   Paint and cement required for assembly — sold separately.

SEALAB III was the final and most advanced phase of the U.S. Navy’s SEALAB program, which aimed to explore the feasibility of extended human habitation and work in deep-sea environments. Designed to operate at a depth of 600 feet, The habitat was deployed off the coast of California in February 1969, but it faced immediate and significant technical difficulties, including equipment malfunctions and safety concerns. Tragically, one diver lost his life during the mission. Due to these challenges, the SEALAB III project was officially terminated in 1970, marking the end of the Navy’s saturation diving experiments under the SEALAB program.

The original release was heavily promoted in comic book ads and catalogs, but when the project was canceled, the kit was discontinued.   The 1970 model kit is highly collectable and was notably used to detail many of the spacecraft in 1977’s Star Wars.
